Warlocks use fel for ALL their abilitites. The fire is felfire/hellfire, the shadow spells are created with fel too. All of this is explained in game and also evidenced by the fact that even your shadow spells like shadowbolt still have bits of green fel energy visual effects on them. Once the body is healed, the spirit within or the warlock can reverse the process, and send the soul back.
